For no reason the hardware-id changed on my backup server. Is this a common issue? I don't want to run software that stopps working undetected because of that.

How can this be avoided?

Things that can cause the HWID to change:

- Changes to the computer name
- Changes in major hardware components (e.g. motherboard, hard drives, network adapters, etc.)
- Changes in the active network adapter(s) – this is common on laptops when switching between wired and wireless network connectivity
- Changes in current Windows hardware profile – this is common with laptops that are used in and out of a docking station

This is not an exhaustive list, but this is what we see most often.

If you have a paid (Advanced or Professional Edition) license our sales team can simply reactivate the license and send you a new license file. All you need to do is send the license key and new HWID to sales [at] thinware [dot] net and they will take care of it for you.

If you have a free (Standard Edition) license all you need to do is request a new license via our website:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the support.

I installed VMware Player, which installed 2 NICs. That could have caused the problem.

As this is a testing environment, HW or SW-changes are most likely to occur frequently. Requesting an updated license file every time is a time consuming and blocking process. Just my 2 cts.
