We are using ESXi 6.0.0, vbackup v4.0.2. We are trying to backup a thin provisioned 16gb VM, but receiving an error -
"CRITICAL: Unable to retrieve virtual machine ID. Error while creating 'virtualmachine' file. FATAL ERROR: Network error: Connection timed out"

SSH is enabled. I can see "Verifying virtual machine exists on server... Virtual machine located successfully." logged. There are no licensing issues reported. Its a high spec server in a datacentre so has excellent network connections.

Any help you can offer would be sincerely appreciated.

I managed to fix this myself. The password for the root user on the host had an ampersand (&) in it and this was causing the backup to fail. I did try using another user account, but this didn't work either. So vBackup needs to use root user and ideally have no non-alphanumeric characters in the password. Hope that helps anyone.
