As above when trying to SSH backup from an ESXi 6.0 free host it stops at "Retrieving virtual machine ID...". No log file is created after I break the vBackup command window. I tried leaving it overnight but it didn't progress any further. I have also tried with and without the registry entries created by Putty after logging onto the host. Does anyone have any tips or know where I might be going wrong?

This error and the resolution is documented in the online vBackup documentation available at the following URL:
http://www.thinware.net/Products/Thin...

Error:
Backup process hangs at: Retrieving virtual machine ID...

Resolution:
Certain special characters, if used in host server passwords, cause problems with instruction calls in backup and restore processes.

To resolve this issue avoid the following special characters in host server passwords.

/ \ ^ & | " < > SPACE

Hope this helps!

Thanks, removing a space from the root password on the host has fixed the issue.
