Hi,

Since last Monday, due to a power grid failure, we are unable to perform any backups. We get the aforementioned message upon opening the software and the file vBackup.xml contains a single line with the word "null" repeating a zillion times. We've opened what seems to be a backup of this file and we can see all the servers and VMs neatly registered and nested within the xml tags. The VBackup machine is a Windows 7 Professional 64 bits and there are 2.5+ TB reserved for backups, of which, 1.5+ TB are still free. Any help/advice is appreciated.
Best,

Fabrizio

We replied to you via e-mail, but have not heard back.

It sounds like something happened to the vBackup datastore (vBackup.xml in the vBackup application directory) that has caused it to become corrupted. Maybe a job was processing and was trying to save information to the datastore when the power failed?

The best thing for you to do is probably to reinstall vBackup. This will give you a clean datastore file that you can import the backup datastore file into. Once you have vBackup installed and the backup datastore imported you should see all of your host servers, virtual machines and backup jobs. vBackup will also discover all of the existing backups, but you will need to cleanup (or remove the old backups from inventory). The discovered backups will be marked as "unmanaged". Simply right-click on them and click "Set as Managed" to add them back to inventory.

Also, it might be a good idea to make another backup of the vBackup.xml file once you have everything set back up.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your help, I've followed your guidance and the issue is over, the old backups were found by the new install and the backups configured are being performed as scheduled. This issue can be marked as solved.
Thanks again.
Best,

Fabrizio
