Hi I'm running vbackup 4.0.0 with ESXi 5 vms. I want to get email notification upon completion of backups but can't get the smtp server to authenticate the user. First thing I'm using a professional license, this does provide mail notification right?
the error when I hit Test E-mail settings is : "Unable to send test message . the SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: Authentication required"
Now using outlook to test the email account I'm using, I have to check the box 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' . When I give it the email account and password it outlook to sends the mail no problem. The server port details are default on outlook i.e. port 25 and 'Server requires encrypted connection (SSL)' NOT checked.
If I telnet on port 25 to the smtp server and try MAIL FROM: testuser@smtp.com I see '530 Authentication required' So outlook is correctly authentication using the supplied user and password but it looks like the vbackup email client is not
Can anyone see spot an error in what I am trying to do here, is there any further diagnostic information I can get from vbackup ? It looks like it should be straight forward , thanks for any suggestions,
